This screen shot of my little MacBook Pro tells you everything you need to know about my day to day. Notice: 1) paper on The Orestia. Due tomorrow at midnight, completely absorbed my whole day, including skipping a class to work on it. 2) thesaurus. Integral part of my writing process, but it does slow me down quite a bit. 3) classical music on itunes. It may or may not make me a nerd, but classical stuff is my jam while I'm doing school work. The quiet distracts me, but music with words does as well. 4) Self Control! This little widget (in the top left hand corner) has saved my academic life this year! I set a timer - today for 12 hours - and there is literally no way I can get on my blacklisted sites (facebook, stumble, hulu, etc.) until the timer runs out. Major procrastination eliminator. And one last thing 5) inspirational sticky note in the bottom left corner. Whenever I come across a quote I like when I'm on the computer, I copy and paste it there, and I love pulling it up and reading over it occasionally to distract me and make me smile.
It's been a long day and a long night in the library of staring at this screen, slowly working on this paper. But I am so looking forward to that relief that I know will come when it is done, and I am also very thankful for all the little things like music and sticky notes that make working diligently not so sad!
