March 25: The Civil Wars!

Next concert on my list for this year:  Civil Wars in Waverly, AL!
Tonight, Erin and I went to see them at this cool outside venue in the middle of nowhere, Alabama.  They were absolutely amazing! If you haven't heard of them before, go check them out (www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-6EwdDiopQ) before they get to be huge - which is definitely coming very soon!

March 24: a granola kind of day

What is better than a laying outside on a sunny day?  Laying outside on a sunny day when Chemistry is cancelled!  The chemistry building was closed down for the afternoon due to a questionable and unidentified smell (or at least that was AU Alert's story), so Erin and I got some good studying done in the "garden of memory" on the back of the Hill (her in the hammock, me on the ground ha) and then moved down to the Quad to hang out and talk to people for the afternoon.  Just hanging out, enjoying the sun and not being in class. Wonderful!

March 23: Study, study, study...

This is my night:  frantically writing a lit assignment on a story that I did not understand at all.  We have books and laptop, caffiene and a bright light in my face so I won't get sleepy, and my butt glued to my desk chair until it's done.  Thankfully, nights like these are still way behind normal nights in numbers.
I think I can, I think I can...

March 22: tomhanksimals.tumblr.com

Another Erin/McCamy obsession:  Tom Hanks Is Animals.
Amazingly hilarious website.  Kind of unexplainable as to why it is so funny to us.
But go see for yourself and enjoy!
p.s. bottom middle picture of this screen shot is in fact my current background (:

March 21: Obessisions

Over the course of this year, Erin and I have had quite a few obsessions.
From gypsies to polygamists to raisins I think I can say that we have a heart for the eclectic.
The lastest fad in Leischuck:  Foxes!  Starting with a random google search last week, Erin and I are now convinced that we will one day own at least one pet fox because 1) they are the perfect cross between a cat and a dog, 2) they make really cool space laser noises, 3) they are freaking adorable, 4) the fox and the hound.
Over spring break, I was confirmed that foxes are in fact amazing when I came across this months edition of National Geographic.  We called this fad ahead of time.  Foxes are the new cool thing - old news NatGeo!

March 20: Back to the Burn

Beautiful is an understatement for what Kristi, Olivia, Abby and I got to come back to today! Although we were so sad for spring break to be over, when Auburn looks this pretty, it's hard to not want to be here. Driving back up to Leischuck for an afternoon unpacking with the windows open, I'm so looking forward to true spring time at Auburn.
Goodbye Spring Break, Hello Spring Fever!

March 19: Toes in the water

My three gorgeous future roomies taking a break from laying out to turn Olivia into a mermaid!  We may have been the oldest kids on the beach playing in the sand, but we're all for 360º tanning (:

March 18: Zac Brown Band at the Wharf!

When we picked Abby up in Auburn on Wednesday, she goes, "Hey, do yall like the Zac Brown Band?" YES! "Oh well my uncle got us tickets" (!!!)
What a great addition to my line up of freshman year concerts!
And tonight, the concert was amazing
Great weather + great music + great friends = great memories (:
We've done spring break well if I do say do myself!

March 17: Snaps for self timer!

Cheesin' at sunset on the beach (:
After a day of being greasy on the beach, you can't let a cute outfit go to waste!
What a fierce foursome!

March 16: Spring Break Road Trip!!

I have a new record for my longest road trip:  a total of 9 hours in the car today!
Starting out from Augusta, first I went to Atlanta to pick up Kristi and Olivia from the airport, then to Auburn to pick up Abby in TigerTown, and then all the way down to Orange Beach for SBLeven (:
A long drive but much easier with good music and great friends!
Poor Toby was absolutely packed to the brim, but we made it down here in one piece, and now I am totally ready for a couple of days soaking up some beautiful spring break sun with sweet future roomies!

March 15: Beach Prep

Right after bikinis and sunscreen, what is the number 1 essential for any beach trip?
 Great beach food!
So today, on my second and last day in Augusta this spring break, I did a little grocery shopping and baking.  On the menu:  the Pruitt's legendary lemonade cake - one of my absolute favorites! And GORP (don't ask me what it stands for) the Pruitt's famous trail mix of chex, pretzels, granola, raisins, and tons of M&Ms.  Can't wait for the beach!!

March 14: Summer Dream Job

Back home in Augusta for Monday of Spring Break 2011, and the job hunt begins!
My mom and I drove over to Bedford Greenhouse down beside Lake Olmstead today to talk to the couple who owns this picturesque nursury.
Love at first sight! Gorgeous flowers and art everywhere you turn -this is my heaven! I would kill to work here this summer, even if I was just going in to water plants at 6am everyday.
Fingers crossed!

March 13: In love with this landscape!!

One of my favorite parts about Windy Gap is all the views!  Absolutely every corner is gorgeous and peaceful!  In this little valley surrounded by mountains and cut off from the real world, it really is the perfect weekend escape.  Even in the midst of hiking, climbing ropes courses, or running around late at night, being out in picturesque nature is so good and calming for the soul. It really is the landscape that keeps us coming home totally exhausted but still somehow rested every year!  I love Windy Gap (:

March 12: Brown Eyed Girl

Singing "Brown Eyed Girl" at Windy Gap club!
With everyone just dancing around completely laid back.
One of my favorite memories from these weekends (:

March 11: Flashback

It's Windy Gap weekend!
And tonight up in the loft of the barn, I severely deja vu-ed when I saw Julia and all her friends in the same spot and same way that Mary Frances and I sat when we were her age.
My little flashback moment made me appreciate how much family camp has meant to me in the 9 years we've been going.  It's such a special place and so many of my best memories from middle and high school took place here.  It's wild to think that one weekend a year has had such a great affect on so many of my relationships, including my relationship with the Lord!
This little camp outside of Asheville holds such a special place in my heart!

March 10: Callouts!

An Auburn tradition that is both loved and hated:  Callouts!
Whenever you try out for something on campus, instead of posting a final list of who made it, the directors of whatever it is come stand up on the stairs of Cater Lawn and call out the people who made it - a very stressful way of doing things.  It's great if you hear your name called, but not so much if you showed up with high hopes and then don't get it in front of everyone.
However, tonight was a very good call out for me! This week and last week I had my interviews for Student Recruiters (aka Auburn tour guides) and tonight at callouts, I made it!  I'm so excited to get to tell high schoolers about what an amazing and special place Auburn is and why I love it so much!
So, for tonight, I like the callout tradition (:

March 9: Eagle's Nest

This is one of the best views on Auburn's campus! The downside is that you only get to go up to the Eagle's Nest for tours, and therefore most Auburn students only get to see this view a couple of time.
So even though it was rainy and treacherous today, I was still so excited to get to go up to the Eagle's Nest for an interview and see Auburn from the top of the tallest building in Lee County.
The interview for student recruiters went well, but even more exciting for me was to get to just go to the interview and see this exclusive view!

March 8: Haircut!

Does a haircut really deserve it's own post? Yes! Because haircuts are (almost) always wonderful, and my haircut was actually what I was most excited about for today!
After a haircut, you just feel so clean and fresh and your hair stays so soft and smooth. Wonderful!
No more split ends (at least for a while) and slightly shorter, healthy-looking hair = good (hair) day (:

March 7: 4th floor...

This is the fourth floor of RBD library. No talking. No fun.
So tonight, as I'm sitting here working on MasteringChemistry for yet another night, I feel like I'm a little kid who's been put in time out until my homework is done.
The 4th floor does, however, promote extreme productiveness.  When even getting out of your chair makes enough noise to earn dirty looks from the people around you, procrastination options are very limited.  Points for McCamy for being productive, even though the library is not much fun when you actually get work done!

March 6: Who you ridin' with?

First Pres Augusta! First Pres of Augusta!
I love my home church in Augusta!  We've been there since before I can remember, and I love that I am really a covenant child and a First Pres kid through and through.
Being home this morning and getting to go to sunday school and worship service made me so thankful for getting to grow up in such a strong, Christ-centered community.  That is so not a given thing, and I've taken it for granted for most of my life.
And the best part is that I know that this church will continue to stay a part of my life no matter where my life takes me! This family will continue to be here for me, and the way my faith has grown in this church will always stay with me.  I am so blessed!

March 5: Reunion!

We totally did not plan to all be home this weekend, but God just worked it out that Mary Frances, Alyssa, and I would all be in Augusta at the same time and get to spend a little bonding time together at one of our favorite hang out and do nothing places.
Not until just now did it strike me as maybe a little strange that the place that we normally choose to meet and catch up is a random corner in Borders.  It's just one of out weird little Augusta things and I love it!
It was so great to spend a little bit of time with these sweet friends tonight and talk about everything that has been going on in our lives this semester!  It makes me look forward to more nights like this coming up in the summer which is approaching oh so swiftly (:

March 4: Pruitt Thug Life

Home for the weekend! Julia's all dressed up for her first middle school dance - a sock hop in the elementary school gym.  Classic.  I'm pumped to be back in Augusta for the first time since Christmas vacation and it was an interesting but fun afternoon hanging around Westminster's campus watching Ned play baseball and then sending Julia off to her dance. It's strange to not necessarily be a part of this place anymore, but at the same time, it feels right that things have moved on and changed.
But needless to say, I'm looking forward to a fun weekend hanging out with my sweet family!
And how could I not post Julia's priceless face in this picture?! Legit.

March 3: Screen Shot Summary

This screen shot of my little MacBook Pro tells you everything you need to know about my day to day.  Notice: 1) paper on The Orestia. Due tomorrow at midnight, completely absorbed my whole day, including skipping a class to work on it. 2) thesaurus. Integral part of my writing process, but it does slow me down quite a bit.  3) classical music on itunes. It may or may not make me a nerd, but classical stuff is my jam while I'm doing school work. The quiet distracts me, but music with words does as well. 4) Self Control! This little widget (in the top left hand corner) has saved my academic life this year! I set a timer - today for 12 hours - and there is literally no way I can get on my blacklisted sites (facebook, stumble, hulu, etc.) until the timer runs out. Major procrastination eliminator. And one last thing 5) inspirational sticky note in the bottom left corner. Whenever I come across a quote I like when I'm on the computer, I copy and paste it there, and I love pulling it up and reading over it occasionally to distract me and make me smile.
It's been a long day and a long night in the library of staring at this screen, slowly working on this paper. But I am so looking forward to that relief that I know will come when it is done, and I am also very thankful for all the little things like music and sticky notes that make working diligently not so sad!

March 2: I love my church!

I am so blessed in so many ways, and one of those ways that God has made explicitly obvious to me this semester has been by placing a church community in my life that I absolutely adore.  I was very resistant to First Baptist Opelika when I first visited there last semester. The church service made me miss First Pres Augusta oh so much and I just didn't initially feel at home there. Plus it's baptist which I know is really not a big deal at all, but me being a little faithful presbyterian I didn't feel quite right saying I loved a baptist church.
However, this semester has been a different story.  One of the first Sundays of the year, I visited FBCO and went to their college service for the first time.  Love immediately.  Worship was amazing, college pastor was amazing, and the feeling of community in that college sunday school class was incredible as well.  I was completely sold and can honestly say that I felt God pulling me there and telling me that this is supposed to be my church home.  I feel so fed every time I go, and I simply love that it's somewhere where I want to wake up and go early on a Sunday morning!  I know it is completely not a given to be settled into a church already, and I love so much that God has given me this gift in 2011 that I needed so badly!
So, when Erin and I made a run out to Opelika today to drop off a check, I snapped a phone pic out of the window.  I just love my church (:

March 1: Stress of the Day

One of the things that I hate most is asking people for money.  Even selling things completely upsets me.  Selling ads in yearbook every year was always the only thing keeping high school summer from perfection, and I fought selling those ads every step of the way.
The college equivalent of that is now philanthropy. Back in the fall, we had an ADPi event to raise money for the Ronald MacDonald House where you could pie a girl in the face for $2. I couldn't even sell those 10 tickets.  I had to write a check and skimp on normal spending money for the rest of the month.  This happened again several weeks ago for our basketball tournament where I was supposed to sell tshirts.  I sold 2, bought 4.  Epic fail. I would rather do hours of community service than ask people to give me money, even when it's for a good cause.
Today, this struggle of mine stressed me out literally all day long.  For an SGA program I'm in, we are supposed to get 5 people to pay $15 to participate in a walk for juvenile diabetes this Sunday. Great cause, but it doesn't make me my fear/struggle any less.
Maybe as I get older, I'll learn how to feel comfortable selling things or asking people for money.  Maybe I'll just always lean more towards service than philanthropy.  As of right now, the lesson from this experience is yet to be learned, but I'm sure down the road I'll be able to look back and see a silver lining.  But for now, I'm content to give my own money rather than beg. #goingbrokefast

February 28: Flower Power

The excitement of giving/receiving flowers is one that absolutely thrills me.  I bought three bouquets of tulips for my sweet roommates today, and I think I may have been as excited to give the flowers as they were to get them (granted, I did get to enjoy them in the room too)!
Maybe it's the horticulturalist in me, but I really feel like flowers have a lot more meaning and a lot more power to impact a person than you would expect.  And for this reason, getting or giving flowers always makes my day!
P.S. Flowers are also always highly superior to teddy bears. Just saying (:

February 27: AC. kind of a big deal

My roommate Anne Caroline and I did not realize what a big deal it was for us to have control of our own thermostat in our room until we lost control of it when maintenance turned the heat on in November.  Since then, the random hot spells have been miserable in the sauna that is Lieschuck, and we've had to leave all the windows open plus have small fans going 24/7 just to stop the sweating.  Starting mid-February, winter left, and it's been mid-60s every single day, but the heat continued to blow.
But, this week, we walked in the room one day to find cool air blowing and our thermostat back in our control. This may not seem like that big of a deal, but we literally screamed and jumped up and down as we turned the temperature back down to 68º!
And now, Leischuck is back to our comfortable little climate controlled home. AC = no complaints (:

February 26: Baseball Season is Here

I didn't realize until Peter and I went to my first ever Auburn Baseball game how much I love and I've missed baseball!  Granted, the weather was absolutely perfect, we got great seats, got in the gate for free, and won the game, but still the whole experience just made almost giddy with enjoyment of being there.
I love the pace of baseball, the ease for a fan to follow the game, the unique smells of a baseball stadium, and the atmosphere that baseball fans provide.
Years and years of watching Ned play middle school and high school baseball wore me out of the game for a while (slow games, in the hot Augusta summer, and especially if we're getting slaughtered are not so much fun), but all those years also helped me to understand the game, appreciate skill, and just love baseball in general.  Even though I don't follow MLB much at all, I love to actually go sit in the stands and watch any team play.
So today, watching my Tigers win in perfect weather with a great friend makes me want to go to every Auburn baseball game this season!
And to add to the general awesomeness of a baseball game, we got to sing the fight song. Winning afternoon!

February 25: Visitor!

Test of the trueness of a friend: How far will they drive to see you?
Today, my great friend Peter made a six hour haul up from Jacksonville to visit me and Auburn for the weekend!  Although he is making it a productive visit by touring the campus and going to talk to aviation people (his major. super cool, nbd), I'm still so excited to get to show him the Auburn I love so much this weekend and just to get to catch up with him too.  This afternoon while giving him the grand tour of campus, I demanded that he stop and take a picture by the Auburn sign in front of Samford Hall.  He was very sweet to comply, and even though the picture is poor quality (I'm sorry, camera phone failed today), it will be so cool if he ends up transferring to Auburn and we have this picture to mark his first time on campus!
Peter, since I know you're reading this, thanks so much for coming up this weekend! I know it was not an easy trip by any means, but it was so much fun to have you here for a day or two!
Hopefully sometime we'll be seeing a picture of my trip to Jacksonville.  In the works!

February 24: Happy Hour!

There are very few things that can make me as instantly happy as a drink from Sonic can.  It's an almost magical power over me (no exaggeration at all!) Cherry limeade, lemon-berry slushes, ocean water, and orange cream slushes...mmm I smile just thinking about my favorites (wow, this sounds pretty pitiful on paper)!  And to make me even more obsessed, of course Sonic has half priced drinks everyday from 2-4pm!
In high school, I went 3ish days a week between school and cheer practice in the spring and fall as a celebration for an accomplished day and an encouragement for the long afternoon ahead. And of course during the Edge my sophomore and junior summers, the work crew made many happy memories on Sonic runs (:  All to say, the drinks + the experiences associated make Sonic a very happy place for me.
Since I've been at Auburn and on a tighter budget than high school (not to mention, I did not have an accessible car all last semester) my Sonic runs have sadly been fewer and farther between.  So, when my bible study leader suggested we catch up over drinks at Sonic instead of Starbucks, it made my day.  A cherry limeade, some life updates, and some Jesus talking was just what I needed on a spring  Thursday afternoon!
Now you know, if you ever need to break bad news, or ask a favor, or just have a desire to brighten my day, Sonic is the way to go! Excuse my obsession (:
