Jan 20: Superstitions, anyone?

There's a myth that goes with the infamous Auburn seal in front of Langdon Hall.  If you step on it, you 1) will not graduate from Auburn on time and/or 2) will not find our true love.  But my question is, how would some unsuspecting high school senior strolling around campus for her first time know this?  Because, you see, little McCamy was not aware during her first visit to campus that stepping on the seal was a bad thing.  In fact, while I was walking toward Samford Hall that morning with my parents, seeing the seal and having a random five-year-old moment, I purposefully not only walked over the seal, but jumped on it with two feet like a little kid jumping in puddles or on the cracks in the sidewalk.  It was not until an hour later when we came to the same spot on the tour and the student recruiter said, "Now careful everyone! Make sure you don't get anywhere near that seal!" did I realize what I had done.
Now, am I normally superstitious? No.  Did I believe on that day last spring that an innocent little hop would ruin my success at Auburn or my love life? Not really.  Did I still regrettingly look at the seal as I walked past it tonight and wish I could take back that rookie mistake?  Pitifully, yes.
The way to break this "curse" is to jump in the fountain in front of the President's Mansion at midnight on leap day.  Now, I've never felt bad when a black cat has crossed my path or when I've tipped over the salt, but will I be jumping in that fountain February 29, 2012?  I have a bad feeling that on that day tradition and superstition will get the best of me.
The date's on my calendar already!
